About fish

By · Comments (0)

Fish are a relaxing pet and are often bought to brighten or decorate a room. They vary in price depending on the size and type that you want and an be cheap to feed and keep. You will have to pay for the tank and then plants, perhaps some plastic plants and decorations as well as some gravel for the bottom of the tank. If you want a fancy tank then this will be expensive and you will need a good air pump if you want it to stay oxygenated, which will also cost money. Oxygenating the water should help it to stay cleaner and will mean you can have more exotic types of fish. Cleaning the tank is not a very nice job, it means removing the fish, plants and decorations and scrubbing all the slime from the tank and rinsing off the gravel before putting everything back. It can take time and effort and can be dirty and smelly. However if you want a pet that is quiet and doesn’t leave a mess around the house, then the fish is perfect. It will not give much affection and you cannot handle it but it could be good as a first pet for a child, a decorative feature or just a fun accessory.

About caged animals

By · Comments (0)

Caged animals are a great solution if you want a pet but do not have much space or money. They are cheap to buy and feed and unlikely to need to see a vet very often. They will need their cage cleaned out weekly but they will not cause much mess in the house unlike dogs and cats who will drop hairs everywhere. They can be fun to play with but some will not like it as much as others so it is important to check before you buy. Some tend to bite when handled so this could be a problem if you have young children who want to play with them. Tiny animals can easily escape if the cage door is left open or if they are being played with outside of the cage and get forgotten. This is worth considering when buying one, especially if you have lots of places an animal can hide in or have cats or dogs who may decide it is a nice tasty treat. It is important to realize that some caged animals need exercise either by way of toys inside the cage or by being taken outside of the cage so you will need the time to do this.

About Cats

By · Comments (0)

Cats tend to be fairly easy to care for. They may need a cat flap in the door to save you having to let them in and out of the house all of the time or you may prefer to leave a window open but this may not be secure and could be very cold. As kittens they will need a litter tray so that they do not do their business around the house but once they can be trusted to go outside and not run off they will go outside. They do not cost too much to feed but there will be vet bills to pay. Cats can be very affectionate and like being stroked which can be very relaxing. However, it will depend on the breed of cats as some prefer to spend most of their time outside and they will only come inside for feeding. They make good pets for children, although they will scratch if they are not happy and sometimes in play but they are unlikely to bite or cause any serious harm. They cannot be trained and so tend to remain more independent than dogs and possible more unpredictable but they will still become attached to their owners and show affection towards them.

About dogs

A lot of people think that having a dog will be great but there are a lot of factors to consider. They can be expensive to feed and look after and there will be vets bills. They will have to be walked once, if not twice a day and large dogs need a long and strenuous walk. Think carefully about what breed you buy because this will make a big difference on both the cost and how much exercise they need. If you want a dog that is affectionate then you will need to choose an appropriate breed, it is worth doing some research, especially if you have children to see which will be the best. There are a lot of people that buy a dog and then realize that they cannot cope with looking after it or it is too expensive and so it is worth doing some calculations first and working out whether you have the time and finances to cope with an animal in the house. However, because dogs can be trained, they can make very good pets and they can help to keep you fit. Many people get a lot of pleasure from dogs, they can be relaxing and useful and even good for guarding the house.

There are a lot of factors to consider when choosing a pet for your child. The first big thing to consider is the expense. It may seem that the price of the animal is not much but then there is the cost of feeding it, vets bills and buying anything else that it needs. You also need to consider space because some animals take up a lot of room. It is likely that the child will not want to look after it all of the time and so parents will need to be aware that they will be the ones cleaning up after it, feeding it and doing everything else. Think about the age of your child and whether the pet they want is suitable for their age as well as for your budget and household. It is also worth considering what will happen to it when you go away on holiday or if you tend to be out of the house all day. It is also important to think about the lifespan of the pet and how that might effect the child – one that does not live long may cause them to be upset and one that lives a long time may be left with you when the child leaves home.
